CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – General Romeo S Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), welcomed General Yoshihide Yoshida and General Hiroaki Uchikura, outgoing and incoming Chiefs of Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) in a virtual meeting held today, July 29.
The online engagement served as a courtesy call and symbolized the continuing strong defense cooperation between the AFP and JSDF. General Brawner expressed his appreciation to the outgoing JSDF Chief of Staff, General Yoshihide Yoshida, for his commitment in strengthening Japan–Philippines military relations, particularly in capacity-building and regional security efforts.
He also conveyed his warm congratulations and support to General Hiroaki Uchikura, the incoming JSDF Chief of Staff, expressing hope that the strategic partnership will continue to grow under his leadership.
The virtual meeting reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to peace, stability, and a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.
