CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines represented by LtGen William Gonzales, the AFP Inspector General, and Baroness Annabel Goldie, the UK’s Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Defence Engagement, reaffirmed PH-UK's commitment to strengthen defense relations during her visit at the AFP General Headquarters on October 12.
In their meeting, the two discussed increasing PH-UK military engagements supported by the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation that is rooted in a long history of friendship and defence cooperation engagements.
“The two officials also upheld their common position on the respect for maritime law and in calling out illegal activities in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone,” said LtCol Enrico Gil Ileto, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office.
LtGen Gonzales extended the AFP’s gratitude to the UK for its support to the military’s peace and development projects, especially in the Bangsamoro and to continue activities such as intelligence exchange and training engagements in CBRN, peacekeeping, and counter-violent extremism.
Baroness Goldie likewise emphasized the importance of continuing to find other ways to work together and share expertise and knowledge for mutual benefit.
