The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. led the turnover and ceremonial unveiling of historical markers for three military assets — the former Philippine Navy Patrol Craft Fast PB321, the demilitarized "Bongbong Rocket," and the decommissioned Philippine Air Force MD-520MG “Defender,” during a ceremony held on July 3, here.
The PB321, formerly a key component of the Philippine Navy’s fast attack fleet, served with distinction in numerous maritime security and patrol missions. The MD-520MG "Defender", a light attack helicopter, played a vital role in tactical air support operations for decades. Meanwhile, the demilitarized “Bongbong Rocket”, an improvised multiple rocket launcher system, stands as a symbol of Filipino ingenuity in addressing operational challenges during its time of service.
In his remarks, General Brawner emphasized the importance of preserving and honoring the legacy of these military platforms. "These assets, though decommissioned, continue to tell the story of the AFP's dedication, innovation, and transformation in protecting our sovereignty and national interest.
The ceremonial installation of these markers is part of the AFP’s broader initiative to highlight the evolution of its capabilities and to educate future generations on the rich history of the armed forces.
