CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to global peace and security, joining nations worldwide in commemorating the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers today, May 29 in a solemn ceremony held at Tejeros Hall, here.
The commemorative event was graced by Assistant Secretary Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Executive Director for UN and Other International Organizations of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), who served as the esteemed Guest of Honor and Speaker. Representing the AFP was Lieutenant General Jimmy D Larida PN(M), Vice Chief of Staff, AFP, and Chairman of the AFP Peacekeeping Council.
Under the poignant theme, "Shared Goals, Renewed Bond: Reaffirming the Commitment of the Philippines to the United Nations," the program highlighted the collaborative spirit and lasting partnership between the Philippines and the international community in fostering stability and resolving conflicts.
Among the highlights of the event was a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Peacekeepers’ Monument, held in honor of the fallen Filipino peacekeepers who gave their lives in the service of global peace.
Also featured during the ceremony was the presentation of the National Council for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (NCUNPO) Awards for Bravery and Service, which recognized the courage, dedication, and outstanding service of Filipino peacekeepers deployed in various peacekeeping missions around the globe.
In his message, LtGen Larida emphasized the enduring responsibility of peacekeeping in the international landscape, “Peace is not a moment — it is a commitment. And may we, as one community of nations, continue to stand firm in that commitment, united in purpose and unwavering in hope.” he stated.///
