CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - The Chief of Staff, AFP (CSAFP) LtGen Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, met with the Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Christian Halaas Lyster, during his introductory call on December 12 at General Headquarters here.
In their meeting, Ambassador Lyster and the CSAFP discussed both countries' adherence to human rights and IHL in addressing external and internal security issues.
LtGen Bacarro also extended his appreciation for Norway's consideration of the Philippines as one of its priority countries for cooperation on women, peace, and security.
Norway has been supporting the AFP on the Bangsamoro Peace Process since 2010, initially as a member of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) during the ceasefire operations between the MILF and the Philippine Government, and now as the Vice Chair of the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB). The IDB provides oversight for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s decommissioning of combatants and weapons.
Both leaders likewise exchanged ideas on peace and reconciliation,combating terrorism and discussed the AFP’s human rights programs and advocacies among its personnel. ///
