AFP Chief of Staff, General Andres C Centino PA, visited yesterday, May 17 one of the four additional EDCA sites located in Balabac, Palawan. His delegation inspected the 3-kilometer runway currently being constructed in the island of Balabac which is part of the Tatag ng Imprastraktura Para sa Kapayapaan and Seguridad (TIKAS) program of the DND and DPWH that started in 2017. Once completed, the airstrip is intended to service both military and civilian aircraft and is expected to boost military presence and detect intrusions in the strategic maritime routes. As part of EDCA projects, an HADR warehouse, barracks and other facilities will be constructed within the vicinity of the Balabac airstrip under the PAF Forward Operating Base.
The CSAFP also inspected the completed EDCA projects located in Antonio Bautista Air Base (ABAB), Puerto Princesa, Palawan that includes the HADR warehouse, an elevated fuel tank, and a command and control fusion center. (Photos by Sgt Ambay/PAO, AFP).
