General Brawner Leads AFP in Commemorating Marawi Liberation

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) commemorated the 8th Anniversary of the Liberation of Marawi City during a solemn flag-raising ceremony led by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr., today, here.

In his address, General Brawner paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the 2017 Marawi Siege. “We honor the valor and sacrifice of our soldiers, police, and reservists, and heroes who laid down their lives so that future generations may live freely,” General Brawner said. “Their courage changed the course of history, and their sacrifice paved the path from destruction to renewal.”

The sustained recovery and rehabilitation effort in Marawi embraced a whole-of-nation approach. The government prioritized restoring order, rebuilding essential infrastructure, and providing humanitarian aid, while also laying the foundation for sustainable development and enduring peace.

The AFP Chief also called on Filipinos to honor the memory of Marawi’s heroes by embodying the values they fought for. “As we honor the past, let us move forward with courage, unity, and hope, carrying the spirit of Marawi in our hearts as we build a peaceful and prosperous Philippines,” he concluded.
