LGU hands over 23 loose firearms in Basilan

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The JTF Basilan along with Basilan police and chief executives received 23 loose firearms turned over by Hadji Muhtamad Mayor Arsina Nanoh on January 30 as part of the government's efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in the region.
One M16A1 rifle, six M1 Garand rifles, two M1 Carbine, two KG-9, two .38 revolvers, and ten .45 Automatic Colt Pistols (ACP), surrendered by residents of different barangays in Hadji Muhtamad, were handed to Brigadier General Domingo Gobway, Commander of Joint Task Force Basilan, Basilan Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman, and Police Col. Carlos Madronio, Provincial Director of Basilan Provincial Police Office.

“I recognize the collaborative efforts of the 4th Special Forces Battalion and the municipal local government unit of Hadji Muhtamad that facilitated the peaceful surrender of loose firearms,” said BGen Gobway on the surrender of firearms, which was a result of Joint Task Force Basilan’s campaign against loose firearms and the small arms and light weapons program in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Basilan.
