LtGen Crespillo retires, MGen Malinit takes over as Inspector General of AFP

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) held a Change of Chief of Office and retirement ceremony on 14 September 2024 at Camp Aguinaldo, honoring Lieutenant General Steve D. Crespillo as he stepped down from his post as Inspector General of the AFP. 

LtGen Crespillo, a distinguished member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990, retired after a career marked by various command and staff assignments. Notably, he previously served as Vice Commander of the Philippine Army, Chief of the Office of the Army Ethical Standards and Public Accountability, and Commander of the 501st Infantry Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division. He also held critical positions as Chief of Staff of the 6th Infantry Division, Chief of the Unified Command Staff of Western Mindanao Command, and Commanding Officer of the 54th Infantry Battalion.

Major General Augustine Malinit, the outgoing Vice Commander of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), will serve as the new Inspector General. A member of PMA “SAMBISIG” Class of 1991, MGen Malinit brings with him vast leadership experience, having previously commanded the Air Defense Command and the 580th Air Control Warning Wing.

The ceremony was presided over by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr, who emphasized the importance of continuity and excellence in leadership within the AFP. The transition highlights the AFP’s commitment to fostering leadership that upholds the values of professionalism and integrity.
