CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Dean of the Corps of Professors of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the AFP’s military educators, is aiming to have all of its ranks to become doctorate degree holders by 2028.
BGen Stephen V Agtoto PROF, Dean, Corps of Professors, expressing their strong commitment to creating a culture of academic excellence, said that while everyone are masteral degree holders, only 60% of the Corps have finished doctoral programs and is aiming that everyone will have a doctorate degree by 2028.
“Your Corps of Professors has committed to aggressively contribute to the realization of the goal of providing a world-class education to our military personnel through the continuous development and sound implementation of the various curricula in our schools,” BGen Agtoto added.
Honoring the role of military educators in developing a world-class Armed Forces, the Corps of Professors, Armed Forces of the Philippines celebrated their 82nd Founding Anniversary on August 4 at the General Headquarters.
“A requisite to a world-class Armed Forces is a world-class education. We don’t just train soldiers to become warriors, we also educate them to learn how to think as they solve complex organizational problems, manage change, address security threats, and execute strategy,” said Agtoto.
Anchored to the theme: "PROF@82: Gurong Tagahubog, Huwarang Tagapagtaguyod, at Hukbong Pahinungod," BGen Agtoto highlighted the significant accomplishments of the Corps including the recently-held 5th Research Colloquium on Philippine Military Education with leading institutions, universities, and colleges in Metro Manila.
The Corps of Professors was created to serve as a body of military faculty of the Philippine Military Academy and was later on categorized as one of the Technical and Administrative Services of the AFP with the Office of the Dean of the Corps of Professors, AFP, and Office of the Head of Academic Group, PMA becoming two distinct entities. In 2011, the Office of the Dean of the Corps of Professors, AFP in the General Headquarters was then officially activated with the mandate to advise the AFP Chief of Staff in formulating policies and supervising all matters pertaining to the Corps of Professors.
"We teach, conduct research, build curriculum, and evaluate programs while at the same time performing functions expected of an officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. This has been our identity for the past 82 years.
