Manila, Philippines. The Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, Armed Forces of the Philippines, MGen Jeffrey C. Hechanova and Director-General, Defense Plans and Policy Department, Japan Self-Defense Forces, RAdm Hiroshi Egawa held the 3rd AFP-JSDF Military Cooperation Working Group Staff Talks on July 14-15, 2022.
Said bilateral talk is aimed at deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest anchored on the 2015 Philippines-Japan Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges.
During the meeting, the two leaders had an in-depth exchange on how to increase bilateral cooperation of the two Defense Forces and discussed opportunities to advance strategic partnerships.
The two leaders also paid a visit to the 580th Air Command and Control Wing, where the Mitsubishi Air Radar System will be stationed. This transfer is expected to strengthen security and defense cooperation between the Philippines and Japan, as well as to contribute to the security of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific Initiative.
The next round of MCWG will be held in Japan next year.
