AFP, EU Deepen Defense Diplomacy in Courtesy Visit

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation and diplomacy as AFP Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Jimmy D Larida welcomed His Excellency Massimo Santoro, European Union Ambassador to the Philippines, in a courtesy visit held on June 20.
The meeting underscored the strengthening ties between the Philippines and the European Union, with discussions focusing on shared interests and opportunities for future collaboration. Key areas of dialogue included maritime security, cybersecurity, defense industry development, and capability enhancement.

LtGen Larida emphasized the AFP’s commitment to engaging with international partners in promoting peace, stability, and regional security. Ambassador Santoro, in turn, expressed the EU’s support for strengthening defense and humanitarian partnerships with the Philippines.

The courtesy visit reflects the growing synergy between the Philippines and the European Union, as both parties seek to explore avenues for cooperation in areas such as maritime security, disaster response, and counterterrorism.
