U.S.-Philippine Forces Sink Target Ship for First Time in Balikatan Exercise

Naval Education Training Doctrine Command, San Antonio, Zambales province, Philippines, April 25, 2023— A combined force of U.S. and Philippine servicemembers participated in a combined joint littoral live-fire exercise today, the culminating field training event for Balikatan 2023.
 
Approximately 1,400 Marines, soldiers, sailors, airmen and Coast Guardsmen from both countries took part in the training, which involved detecting, identifying, targeting and engaging a target ship using a variety of ground and air-based weapons systems.

Featured talents honor soldiers in a one-night concert

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—Performing artists gathered in the Konsyerto sa Palasyo (KSP) on April 22 for a one-night performance in recognition of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' role in peace and security.
 
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr initiated the concert, which was also attended by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte, former president and current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, OIC-DND, Senior USec Carlito Galvez and other government officials.

BRP Tarlac (LD601), one of the Philippine Navy’s largest ships, participates in the largest Balikatan Exercise to date.
 
The exercise comprises numerous events involving ships, conducted with US counterparts such as Communications Exercise (COMMEX), Joint Amphibious Raid Exercise, Replenishment at Sea Approaches (RASAP), Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX), Division Tactics Exercise (DIVTACS), and Deck Landing Qualification/Proficiency (DLQ).///
